In 2017 I decided to quit my office job and open a home daycare. I have always loved working with children and sharing a love of reading with them hence Little Readers was born. I enjoy books, movies, traveling, history, board games, and spending time with friends and family. I started family childcare in Elk River, MN and relocated to Ely in 2022 to be near family. I continuously take additional training to improve my program and completed my BA in Child Development in August 2022. I currently use 1-2-3Learn curriculum and DRDP assessments with the children. It is my joy to spend time with children and nurture their growth and development. Family childcare is a unique and special loving home environment for their children to grow, socialize and learn in and I can’t imagine doing this anywhere else!

Simon is our Covid baby born in 2020! The kiddos helped decide his name and he’s very friendly because he’s grown up around them. He likes to lay right in our way, usually hanging around especially during pick ups and drop offs.

Ruby was born in 2012 and was at home by herself a lot until I left my office job in 2017. The rule is we leave Ruby alone because she doesn’t like pets! She’s usually hiding out upstairs but when she makes an appearance everyone is sure to notice and comment on it. 🤣

I want my home to be a second home for kiddos and their families! We primarily use the main level of the house. Toys and activities are located in living room, dining room, playroom and the back bedroom we affectionately refer to as “the gym.” Middle bedroom is where infants cribs are usually set up and diaper changing station.
I love us

I love using different areas of the house because it allows children independence while at the same time easy supervision and monitoring. When some friends are having a dance party or being loud and someone else needs peace and quiet they have the space and opportunity to do that here not offered in a large classroom setting. We also adjust our days for our needs so if we need extra gross motor movement we can go to the park, if the group is needing a chill day we can play board games or occasional movie. We play together, learn from each other, celebrate and take care of each other just like a family!
